Ghanaian actor, musician, and presenter, Kwaku Manu has chided the Akufo-Addo-led government for failing to pay heed to the needs of the creative arts industry.

In a panel discussion on the United Showbiz last Saturday, the Kumawood actor said that there have been no efforts to build an additional theater to the existing one constructed during the Rawlings administration.

He also indicated that inadequate movie cinemas in the country cast a negative slur on the industry and frustrate the efforts of hardworking artists who sometimes have to grapple with private theaters.

“With the private theaters, you are required to share your revenue equally before the government takes its portion too, so by the time you finish, you would have run at a loss,” he bemoaned.

He further criticized the government for being indifferent to the challenges which the industry and its people face which has left several artists financially handicapped.

“It is only in Ghana that an artist can beg for money on the radio to pay medical bills…Our leaders are not concerned about how to make the industry vibrant but rather are focused on income. God will punish them very well,” he fumed.

The famous actor subsequently called on the Ministry of Tourism, Artis, and Culture, and the government to collaborate with well-off business people to put up more cinemas in the country which he believes will bolster the arts sector.
