Sara Ramirez Says She Is Bisexual

Mexican-American singer, songwriter and actress, Sara Ramirez has declared that she’s bisexual.

She revealed her sexual orientation while giving a speech at the True Colors Fund’s 40 to None Summit in Los Angeles on Saturday.

“So many of our youth experiencing homelessness are youth whose lives touch on many intersections – whether they be gender identity, gender expression, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship status,” she said.

“Because of the intersections that exist in my own life: Woman, multi-racial woman, woman of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish American, immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican & Irish sides,” she continued, “I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth’s voices to be heard, and that support our youth in owning their own complex narratives so that we can show up for them in the ways they need us to.”

The 41-year-old actress also took to Twitter to confirm the news.

“#40ToNoneSummit #SpeakingMyTruth!” she wrote. “Will post full video of speech soon! #ThankYou @TrueColorsFund #WomanOfColor #Bisexual #Queer #Immigrant.”

She is known for her role as Dr. Callie Torres in the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy (2006–16), and as the original Lady of the Lake in the 2005 Broadway musical Spamalot, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

On June 17, 2011, Ramirez and longtime partner, Ryan DeBolt, a business analyst at TIMEC, got engaged in Paris, France. They were married on July 4, 2012 in a private beachside ceremony in New York.
