Alleged Rape Saga At Damongo Hospital: Staff Defend Colleague

The Hospital Administrator of the Damongo Government Hospital in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region of Ghana, Mr Remmy Nyewie, has told Suncity Radio Morning Show Host, Nana KAS, Wednesday morning that the entire staff of the hospital find it difficult to accept the rape case levelled against one of their colleagues.
Mr Ernest Green, a Nurse at the hospital is alleged to have raped an Italian Tourist (name withheld) admitted at the VIP Ward for dysentery.
Narrating the story to the Programme Host, Mr Nyewie said they found it very unthinkable that a professional healthcare giver like Mr Green could stoop so low to rape a patient on admission suffering from dysentery, considering all the odour and uneasiness that went with the disease.
“Mr Green is a nice gentleman who has worked diligently with us for the past one year, we find it extremely difficult to believe the allegation levelled against him by the white lady,” he defended.
He said even though the case was under Police investigations, the entire hospital staff would do everything humanly possible to exonerate their colleague, whom they believe was innocent, but only a victim of circumstance.
An Italian female Tourist to the Mole National Park at Damongo, is said to have informed the Italian Embassy in Accra that she had been raped by a Staff Nurse, while on admission at the Damongo Government Hospital, last Friday.
The Embassy subsequently informed the Damongo District Police Command, who immediately arrested Mr Green and remanded him in custody.
