I Felt Honored And Humbled – Rocky Dawuni Says After His Lyrics Were Used At UN General Assembly

“An honor” and “humbling” were the words used by prominent Ghanaian reggae artiste Rocky Dawuni as his lyrics found a place at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
The lyrics, which read, “How many roads we have to walk just to make it to the door, only to be told that the door is closed” are from his 2010 song “Walls Tumbling Down”.
The words were incorporated in a speech by the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley while emphasizing the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reflecting on the progress and setbacks in achieving them.
According to Rocky Dawuni, this recognition is a testament to the power of music and culture to inspire and communicate crucial messages, even on a global stage like the UN General Assembly.
“For a prime minister to go to the floor of the United Nations, to speak at a pivotal moment in human history about the SDGs and how far they’ve come and how far they’ve fallen and what the way forward is and her taking inspiration from my words to be the foundation of what she was communicating, I felt it was an honor, and at the same time, humbling for me.
“I feel that it’s also a justification of how artists and culture, musicians, we have the opportunity and the ability to also tap into certain sentiments that sometimes is not apparent to us, but it has resonance,” he told Doreen Avio in an interview monitored by Newshuntermag.com.
Rocky Dawuni is a three-time Grammy nominee, songwriter, and record producer. His music is characteristic of “Afro Roots”, a sound that includes Reggae, Highlife, Afrobeat, and Soul, among others.
“Gonna Take It Easy” and “Beautiful People” are some of his famous songs.
