GRA Confirms Smooth Implementation Of E-Levy

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has confirmed the smooth implementation of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy).

The Head of Communication and Public Affairs at GRA, Mrs Florence Asante, has stated that the implementation of the controversial levy was very smooth.

She, therefore, asked Ghanaians to call the toll number of the Authority if they have any issues that need to be addressed.

“From the side of the Ghana Revenue Authority, the implementation of the Electronic Transfer Levy has generally been very smooth. We commenced implementation on Sunday, May 1. We had a lot of collaboration with our charging entities, and they are the banks, electronic money issuers, payment service providers, and specialized deposit-taking institutions.

“So we went into collaborations with all these institutions and businesses and together with them, we planned on how we were going to implement the levy and that accounted for the smooth introduction of the levy,” Mrs Asante said.

She added that GRA is in constant engagement with the charging entities for the smooth use of the common platform.

The E-Levy, which is 1.5 per cent on electronic transfers, was heavily opposed by the majority of Ghanaians before it was implemented on May 1, 2022.
