Revered Ghanaian author and playwright, Professor Ama Ata Aidoo, has passed on.
She died in the early hours of May 31, 2023.
Professor Aidoo’s demise was announced by her family in a statement Newshuntermag.com has seen.
The family revealed she passed on after a short illness.
“The Family of PROF. AMA ATA AIDOO, with deep sorrow but in the hope of the resurrection, informs the general public that our beloved relative and writer passed away in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, 31st May 2023, after a short illness,” the family disclosed in a statement.
She was 81.
Arrangements for the funeral of Professor Ama Ata Aidoo are yet to be announced.
The prolific writer, who made a profound impact on generations of African women writers, was born Christina Ama Ata Aidoo on March 23, 1942, in Abeadzi Kyiakor, near Saltpond, in the Central Region of Ghana.
