Alan Kyerematen Resigns From NPP (Again), Decides To Contest 2024 Elections As An Independent Candidate

Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has officially resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the second time.

He revealed his decision to exit the ruling party in his highly awaited public address on Monday, September 25, 2023.

“It is abundantly clear to me that my services and contributions to the party are not appreciated and that my continuous stay in the party will create further tension and divisions which is an exact replay of the circumstances that led to my decision to resign from the party in 2008.

“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honorably resigning with immediate effect,” he said.

On September 5, 2023, Alan announced his withdrawal from the NPP flagbearer race after claiming a barrage of irregularities and intimidation tactics were meted out to his people during the party’s Super Delegates Conference earlier in August.

At the conference, Alan was surpassed by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and newcomer NPP flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, having secured less than 100 of the over 900 votes.

Lots of speculations about him going independent sprung up after his resignation from the race.

This would be the second time Alan is resigning from the NPP, the first time being in 2008 after he lost the flagbearer race to President Nana Akufo-Addo. He later rejoined the party.

He plans on contesting the presidential seat in the 2024 general elections as an independent candidate under the name of his new faction, “Movement for Change” which has the monarch butterfly as its symbol. The motto of the movement is “Ghana will rise again.”
