Rising Typhoid Cases In Kintampo Communities – General Surgeon Appeals To Government To Intervene

The General Surgeon at the Municipal Hospital in the Kintampo North Municipality in the Bono East Region, Dr Sarah Azindow, has called on the government of Ghana to assist communities in the area to access potable drinking water.

This appeal comes on the backdrop of the increase in the number of recorded cases of typhoid fever in some farming communities in the Kintampo township.

Residents of these areas have been plagued with water shortages, particularly in the dry season, which are made worse by the seasonal pollution of dugouts.

Over the last eight months, 14 cases of the fever have been recorded, according to health authorities of the municipality.

Dr. Azindow, in an interview with Onua FM which Newshuntermag.com came across, explained that 12 out of the 14 cases were recorded in the Jato Akura community. The situation, she bemoaned, becomes alarming by the day.

She therefore implores the government to provide the necessary support to make drinking water available to these residents to prevent them from contracting typhoid disease and other water-borne illnesses.
