Maradona Yeboah Adjei, known in the industry as Guru, has accused GHAMRO of stealing his money.

Speaking in an interview with Gerry Gee-De General on Free 97.5 FM in Techiman, the Ghanaian musician said he is yet to get his money, about one million dollars from the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO).

He explained on the Free E-Block show on Saturday, June 11, that his songs alongside songs from Wizkid and Burna Boy were used at X Factor, a reality show in the USA which he was supposed to have earned him about a million dollars.

After he contacted ASCAP, (a company which collects royalties for musicians based in the USA), he was told that the money has been collected and paid to GHAMRO and was supposed to be given to him when he visited the ASCAP office in the USA based in Manhattan.

Guru stated that upon arriving in Ghana, he visited the GHAMRO office to claim his money only to be told the board has been changed and they had no money in their accounts and they pleaded with him to join the scheme instead.

He revealed he has been registered and worked with ASCAP for over 10-15 years, claiming that he has a lot of hit songs and a single song has over 3 million streams which he was expecting not less than the money he stated above.

Guru added: “I am back to school because of some of these things and I wanna come out and help the young and up and coming ones in the industry for our leaders doesn’t think about us and wouldn’t want others to also go through what he is going through.”
