Ghana Music Awards: Replace Gospel Categories With Religious Categories – Musician

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Numerous award schemes in Ghana place so much emphasis on ‘Gospel’ categories instead of generalising it to cover all the three acceptable religious groups in the country.

Aboatea Kwasi, who is also known as Mixta Blakk; a sensational songwriter and songster, has said there should rather be a generalized category to cover the three main religions (Islam, Christianity and Traditional) during awards schemes instead of placing the focus solely on Christian singers.

He stressed that limiting the focus on only Christian singers hence, neglecting singers within the other two religious groups, that’s Islam and Traditional religions are not the best way.

The “3b3fa” composer is of the plea that award organizers should rather have a “Religious song” and “Religious artiste” of the year categories instead of only focusing on Christian singers.

“There are Islamic singers, Traditional singers as well as Christian singers. So why then the focus on only Christian singers?” he queried.

Aboatea added: “As a result of this and more, Islamic and traditional religious singers are always left in their shells. It is now time to place the focus on all the three religions and not only one. If a song or an artiste is religious, it will be easy to clarify.”

He is currently promoting his new song titled ‘Akosua Dompo’.
