The founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has made a resolution to ban betting if he is elected into the highest office of the land.

According to Mr. Ayariga, the activity promotes a lazy culture and wastes the potential of the youth who could channel their energies into more productive ventures.

Under his leadership, there would be no need to chase betting companies and individuals for revenue because it would be banned, he emphasized.

Speaking to 3FM, Mr. Ayariga made this strong commitment saying, “But why are we betting because betting is an avenue for lazy people…Because they have no jobs and are looking for avenues…I will cancel betting and make it illegal. Why do you bet? What do you mean by betting?”

“When I need young people like them to sit on computers and design things and build the country where we have the highest technology in the world, you are sitting down doing betting,” he asserted.

His recent argument stems from the government’s decision to introduce a 10 percent withholding tax on games, betting, and lottery winnings that took effect on August 15, 2023.

The decision led to mass outrage and sparked debates, especially among the youth who indulge in the activity both for leisure and lucrative reasons.
