Celebrated Nigerian actor and comedian, John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has sent out a heartfelt plea from his hospital bed, as he battles a serious medical condition which could result in the loss of his legs.

In a video shared on his Instagram on Wednesday, the Nollywood comic said he had been hospitalized for weeks and his legs will likely be amputated if the current treatment fails.

While the 62-year-old asked for prayers, he also solicited financial assistance to help him battle his failing health.

“I have been down for so many weeks. While I am hoping for prayers and assistance, as I speak to you, I am still lying down in the hospital. The medical director of this hospital said that the best solution is, in case his new idea does not work, the best idea is to cut off my leg.

“Just see me, if they cut off my legs where would I go? Where do I go from here? Please, please, be on the prayers for me, I don’t want my legs to be cut off, please. Thank you so much, God, bless you,” he said.

His wife and daughter also made an appeal to the public to help cover the costs of Mr. Ibu’s treatment.

“I’ve been sorting out the bills thinking it’s something I can do alone. Mummy has been at the hospital for about two weeks now. The kids are at home. We’ve been doing everything humanly possible to make sure Daddy gets back on his feet. We thought it was something we could actually do or sort out on our own and he’ll be fine, but he’s not getting better,” his daughter said.

She added that they wished to take Mr. Ibu outside the country for better treatment.
