A former Local Government Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Mr. Kwadwo Adjei-Darko has lamented the way Ghanaian children are brought up.

The Former Minister speaking at the inauguration of an ultra-modern J.H.S complex by the Council of Brong Ahafo Associations of North America (COBAANA) at Ayakomaso on Friday said the society and people dwelling in it are failing to discharge their responsibilities in training children.
“Let us look at children who are engaging themselves into armed robbery. Young boys at the age of 19-23 years are doing robbery. It is sad for people to cite lack of employment for their actions…because at that age they do not know much about life. They should be in school or still learning a trade,” he stated.
Mr. Kwadwo Adjei-Darko noted that, it all boils down to bad parenting.
“Nowadays young folks are engaging themselves in ‘Sakawa’. They will do anything to get money. At the age of twenty (20) what are you going to do with a car? Even if your father has a car, ask yourself the age he attained before he bought it. They do not even like modest cars but what they want is a four wheel drive and other big cars. All these are happening because parents are failing to instill good manner in their children,” he posited.
Mr. Adjei-Darko indicated that all these things would cease if parents are to train their children well.
“As the bible says, Train up a child in the way he should go, and [or even] when he is old he will not depart from it-(Proverbs 22:6). If Ghana will progress, then we have to take a closer look at the way we train our children. We cannot train them without good education. We all have a role to play,” he stressed.
