Pastor of the Mogya Kokoo Church at Abofu, near Achimota, Justice Osei
Kofi has been arrested by the Accra Region Police Command for his
alleged involvement in stealing a total of about GHC2 million.
The robbery, executed in November 2011, was carried out by the pastor
and two other accused persons; namely, Nana Ama Agyeiwaa, a.k.a.
Nadia; and Avo Kevorkion, a Lebanese national, who are currently
serving a 15-year jail term.
Narrating the details of the arrest to the press, the Accra Region
Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Christian
Tetteh Yohuno stated that Justice conspired with the other two accused
persons to rob Cemix Company Limited, dealers in power generating sets
and plants, within the period mentioned and made away with GH₵85,000,
$320,000 and €110,000.
Detailing the modus operandi of Justice and his accomplices, the
Accra Region Commander held that Avo, an employee of the said
company, sold out his boss to the said pastor and Nadia, presenting
them to his boss as potential buyers and the robbery was carried out.
After the robbery, the MD raised an alarm immediately, attracting the
attention of the public and a motorist, who pursued the robbers and
arrested Nadia.
Justice bolted and went into hiding, until his arrest from his hideout
at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region over the weekend through police
intelligence.
The leader and founder of 'Mogya Kokoo' has since confessed to his
involvement in the crime and has been arraigned before court.
In a related development, Samuel Larkotey Lartey, 36, a banker, and
Kwaku Boateng, 45, a trader, have both been arrested for robbing a
bank.
The two conspired and burgled an amount of GH₵11,300 from three
different branches and locations of a reputable bank in the capital,
Accra.
Samuel Larkotey Lartey, Operations Officer of the bank and also the
guardian of the vault keys, went to the bank on March 3, 2014 and
stole the said amount.
During police investigations, it was discovered that Samuel embezzled
money from the bank and masterminded the robbery to cover up his
trails.
Investigations are still ongoing to bring other perpetrators in this
case to book, while the two suspects are being processed for court.
DCOP Yohuno is advising the public to thoroughly check the backgrounds
of their employees and also keep large sums of monies at the banks.
