Concentrate On The Talents Of Gospel Musicians And Not Their Behaviors – Wappy Colo Asks Ghanaians

Frank Wappy Colo, a prominent figure in the business of sound engineering, has called on all well meaning Ghanaians to put an end to demonizing gospel musicians’ behaviours and start being appreciative of their talents more.

He aired his concerns about how talents have been suppressed over the years in an interview with Felix Agyei, better known as Mr Lattus on J Life FM’s chat show.

According to the sound engineer, God-given talent is one thing and behaviour is another. However, a judgemental section of the society has sadly caused how they see the behaviours of gospel musicians to overshadow how they see their talents. This he said, was sending the image of gospel music down the drain as opposed to previous years where gospel music was the much-preferred music choice.

He lamented the unsupportive nature of people towards gospel artists.

“Look at this, let’s assume that there’s to be a program organized by Shatta Wale or other musicians, you’ll marvel at how the crowd will overflow. But let a gospel musician put up a concert and attempt to charge even GH¢2.00, not a single person would attend. We are gradually killing our gospel music and it is high time we became supportive. Let’s put aside the behaviours of our artists and focus more on their God-given talents.” He said.

Wappy Colo again asserted that there are many underground artists, who have been unable to climb out of their shells due to persistent backlashes meted out to those who were already in the industry. Their talents he noted, could elevate gospel music to the highest peak, but the needed support was woefully inadequate.

He further observed that some people do not exhibit the most laudable behaviours, but their singing could send down healing to others.

“God doesn’t look at appearance but the heart; He has His own covenant with each and every one of us. For instance, there may be a pastor who is a womanizer, but you would never know the kind of covenant God has with him. Let us take a look at the late Ebony’s one-week celebration, the same people who call themselves Christians and criticized her were the very ones who attended the celebration,” he said.

In his final words, he reiterated that gospel talents should be supported, promoted and the destructive criticisms should cease to freely flow.

He then pleaded with Ghanaians, particularly those who are well off to lend out helping hands to the up and coming gospel artists so that their talents would be exposed and consequently, greatly impact lives for gospel music to once again gain its firm roots.
