Reducing Climate Menace Is A Significant Issue For Development Of Future Generations – G2 Foundation

The G2 Foundation has underscored the significance of reducing the menace of climate change to facilitate the speedy and sustainable development of future generations.

Ms Gifty Nyarko, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the foundation emphasized that it is “very necessary to plant the habits and practices of environmental friendly and justice in the minds of children to reduce climate crises.

The G2 Foundation is a charitable Non-governmental organization with a core mandate of seeking the welfare of vulnerable and marginalized groups in society. 

Ms Nyarko was speaking to newsmen in an interview last Saturday at Odumase, the Sunyani West Municipal capital in recognition of the significance of the 2022 International Day of the girl child: 

The Day was commemorated on Tuesday, October 11 this year on the theme: “Our time is now – Our Right, Our Future”.

According to Ms Nyarko, the girl child and children, in general, can not grow and enjoy their full right to develop and become responsible future leaders without strict tackling activities and behaviours causing devastations and unsustainable environment. 

Hence, the need for a holistic approach by Chiefs, technocrats, parents, teachers, lecturers, Civil Society Organizations and institutional heads towards mitigating circumstances possible to affect the development of children and their future, she said. 

Ms Nyarko, therefore, proposed “we have to teach our children to be mindful always that respecting and protecting the green spaces would improve their healthy lives for a sustainable environment for the future”.

“We must lead an exemplary life and not hesitate to teach the children real causes and negative effects of more intense drought, devastating flood, wildfires and heavy storms and the need to avoid them in their daily endeavours as they grow”.
Ms Nyarko outlined that encouraging activities such as 

supporting women in agriculture and educating the girl-child to improve organic farming, to be water-wise and ambassadors of trees and green spaces would reduce global warming and prevent the worst consequences of climate change now and in the future.

This would facilitate easy achievement of Goal 13 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and automatically contribute immensely to address 1, 6, 11, 12, 14 and 15 of the SDGs, she noted.
