She hit the spotlight in 2008 when she won the Stars of the Future music talent show but singer, Adina Thembi Ndamse has since not made the strong impact expected of her.
This has swelled speculation that her not being overly conspicuous on the music scene is largely due to her inability to cope with prevailing competition. The young lady, however, says she is not scared of contending with anybody and that she is her own boss.
According to the Coastal Vibes singer, new faces on the music scene is a sign that the industry is booming and has enough room for others.
“I’m happy there are new faces in the industry. I’m concentrating on my career and don’t have time to be checking who is doing what or who I am in competition with. I know for sure I’m not competing with anyone. I’m my own boss,” she said in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.
“I’m not in any competition with anyone though competition is healthy. I’ m not doing music just for doing sake. I’m not in this simply because I have a good voice or something.
“Music is my life and I do not see myself doing anything else. I’m working so hard at establishing my brand that I don’t need to introduce myself anymore,” she added.
According to her, not releasing songs at short intervals is part of strategic planning for her career and not because she does not have material to record.
“You cannot just get up and start releasing songs. A lot goes into it and for me and my team, we take our time to research and make sure we get things right before coming out,” she said.
About the effect marriage and child birth could possibly have on her career in the future, Adina said: “I am not scared about that at all. I look up to big artistes like Beyonce, Angelique Kidjo and others who did music till it was time to raise families and that is the level of commitment I have for my career. I believe that in everything, there is a way out.”
Adina, who is of Ghanaian and South African parentage, describes herself as someone passionate about whatever she sets her mind to do and a key principle for her in life is that people can do anything they set their minds to.
Adina attended Wesley Girls’ High School and Central University College where she obtained a degree in Environmental and Development Studies.
She has been the face of the AfroMod Trends fashion house over the last two years. She also used to be the face of cosmetic brand, Kaela De Jean.
Adina, who starred in Okyeame Kwame’s second Versatile show titled The Beggars, will be the featured artiste at this month’s Soul to Soul UltraVox show tomorrow, November 6 at the +233 Jazz Bar & Grill in Accra. She will be backed by the Black Lace Band.
The series has in the past featured other rousing female singers like Stephanie Benson, Raquel and Nana Yaa.
