Afrobeat star Naira Marley has been taken into police custody in Nigeria for questioning regarding the death of fellow singer MohBad.
MohBad’s mysterious death last month caused an outrage among his fans who suspected foul play involving Naira Marley. Many took to various social media to demand justice for the 27-year-old singer with the trending hashtag #JusticeForMohBad.
Naira Marley allegedly was involved in a feud with MohBad after the latter broke away from his record label, Marlian Records.
Several videos have been circulated on social media in which the former Marlian Records signee complained of harassment and non-payment of royalties due him.
Naira Marley has denied all allegations of wrongdoing and promised to return from abroad to assist with the police investigation.
Spokesperson for Lagos state police, Benjamin Hundeyin said on Tuesday that he has been picked up for “interrogation and other investigation activities.”
Police also exhumed MohBad’s body for an autopsy to be carried out, however, the results are yet to be released. A coroner’s inquest will resume on October 13.
