Two suspects are on the run after breaking jail from the Asiwa police cells in the Ashanti region, bringing to four, the number of jailbreaks in three months. Bosome Freho District Chief Executive, Kwame Adarkwa, confirmed the jailbreak on Adom FM’s ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Friday. One of the suspects has been identified as Isaac Normanya. The two were arrested on Wednesday for their involvement in illegal mining (galamsey) activities and the theft of some excavators. But they escaped Sunday after using some tools to break metal bars in the cells. The suspects were being processed for court on Monday. The jailbreak is the fourth in three months. Three recorded in the Ashanti region and one in the Volta region. In February this year, one of the prison cells at the Kumasi Central Prison caught fire resulting in the prison officers opening the cells for the inmates to go into the open area, while the wardens tried to put out the fire with fire extinguishers. 
Kumasi Central Prison Fearing that the fire could spread to their cells, the other inmates started agitating and asked that their cells be opened. The inmates who were outside managed to break open the doors to the cells enabling those inside to troop out, thereby compromising security. The incident was followed by seven remand prisoners in the Denu community in the Volta region escaping jail. They apparently got external assistance when a Nigerian walked into the cell, opened it and directed them to a waiting vehicle outside.

Five have so far been re-arrested with the cooperation of the locals and a stolen AK-47 rifle has been retrieved. In Tepa in the Ashanti region, a student nurse Ernest Owusu Afram, and a driver Shadrach Nyame broke out on Tuesday dawn after cutting through metal bars.
