Veteran Ghanaian gospel singer, Esther Boakye Dua popularly
known as Mama Esther, has stated that Ghanaian musicians are suffering and
something needs to be done urgently to rescue them.
The ‘Goliath Beko’ singer speaking in an interview with Mr.
Lattus on J.life Fm Entertainment Chart called on the Ghana Music Right
Organization (GAMRO) to put pragmatic measures in place to save Ghanaian
musicians from hunger and bankruptcy.

“Ghanaian musicians are suffering. In fact we are hungry and
something needs to be done. Producers lose a lot when they invest their monies
into music nowadays.”
According to her, the availability of phones, whatsapp and
pen drives have contributed in the collapse of the business.
“We do not earn much from the music due to the availability
of phones, whatsapp, pen drives and other things that people use to get the
songs free without buying the original CD are or copies. It is collapsing the
industry,” she lamented.
Mama Esther disclosed that she doesn’t know much about
GAMRO—and she is yet to confirm whether they have meet with her other
colleagues to discuss about the welfare of musicians in the country.
“I haven’t heard much about GAMRO, I can’t tell if they’ve
meet with my colleague musicians…If they’ve met to discuss anything with them
then I didn’t received any information on that. They need to dialogue with us
if they really want to help us,” Mama Esther pleaded.
