With reference to the press conference by Mr. Kwabena Agyei
Agyapong  (General Secretary of the NPP)
on the 16th June, 2015 where he emphatically stated that “We have
formally received the actual results as declared by the Electoral Commission in
the various constituencies. Except in two constituencies (i.e Sunyani East and
Gomoa East)”.

The import of this portion of the Press Conference sought to
portray Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh as not validly elected on the 13th
June, 2015 at the Pastoral Centre, despite an official declaration by the
Electoral Commission of Ghana on the 13th June, 2015.
The impression is totally wrong, flawed, mischievous and malicious.
As the general rule, Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh was validly elected by the
majority of the delegates of Sunyani East Constituency on the 13th
June, 2015 and we do not want to engage in media commentary on internal NPP
matters, but the issues at stake and the central role of the media in Ghana is
necessary for us to set the records straight.
The facts of the matter are as follows:
 a) After the elections at the Pastoral Centre on
the 13th of June, 2015, Sunyani, the certified results in the
evening was submitted to the Brong Ahafo Regional Electoral Commission of
Ghana.
 b) The certified results so submitted by the
Municipal Electoral Commission to Mr. George Gyabaah-the Regional Commissioner
was signed by Apraku Tuffour , the agent of the defeated candidate, John
Bugiri-the agent of the winner of the election as well as Mr. Yaw Opoku-the
Municipal Electoral Commissioner (Presiding Officer).
 c)  Neither of the agents of the candidates
challenged the results so declared by the Electoral Commission at the Polling
Station-Pastoral Centre.
 d)
The Brong Ahafo Regional Electoral
Commissioner-Mr. George Gyabaah has made it known to us that he personally
handed over the entire election results of Brong Ahafo Region including Sunyani
East to the Director of Elections (Mr. Samuel Tettey), who also confirmed to us
that all the results from the Brong Ahafo Region have been transmitted to the
NPP’s Headquarters in Accra.
 e) To our surprise, on Tuesday, June 16th,
2015 the report in Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong’s (General Secretary of NPP)
press conference portrayed the invalidity of the election in Sunyani and the
subsequent declaration of Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh as the winner of Hon.
Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh as the winner of Sunyani East Constituency Parliamentary
Primaries.
These are the bare facts of the matter and
it is clear that Kwabena Agyei Agyapong (General Secretary) and Mr. Martin
Agyei  Korsah (Director of Elections,
NPP) are being economical with the truth, hence, the mischief in the press
conference.
We want the rank and file of NPP and
Ghanaians in general to understand that Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw is the
Candidate-Elect for Sunyani East Constituency as declared by the Electoral Commission.
Again, it is the strongest position of the
Sunyani East Constituency Executives that Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong (General
Secretary of NPP) and Mr. Martin Agyei
Korsah (the Director of Elections, NPP Headquarters) have no authority
to exclude the certified results of Sunyani
East Constituency by the Electoral Commission from the overall NPP
Parliamentary Primaries Elections conducted on the 13th of June,
2015.
Finally, we are urging the General
secretary and the Director of Elections to consult the party’s legal team on
such matters before issuing statements since the matter at hand is purely a
legal issue.
Signed:
Frank Musah Damtarl
Constituency Chairman, Sunyani East NPP
Lawrence Amponsah
2nd Vice Chairman
