The Sampa Community Health Center, which was upgraded to a district hospital in the Jaman North district in the Brong Ahafo region is highly deplorable and deeply lacks staff, residential accommodation, vehicles and infrastructure.

Acting Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Philip Taah Amoako disclosed this in an exclusive interview with this reporter.
He said the place is a hard reached area, three doctors refused postings there and other health workers whilst some staffs are currently asking for release.
Dr Taah Amoako revealed that the health facility has only one doctor, an anaesthetic and limited staff accommodation as the few ones there were outmoded and have never received any rehabilitation since; they were built in the 1970s.
According to Dr Philip Taah Amoako when the facility was raised to a hospital level in 2004, an NGOs named Matthew Essie Foundation built the male and female and maternal wards for the at the new site amidst the over the counter sellers Association which also provided the theatre block where they now operate.
The Acting medical superintendent says the pediatric ward was also constructed by the United State Agency for International Development and that OPD and pharmacy are combined due to lack of limited space.
The Medical Doctor continued that the structure used as laundry almost collapsed and launders used to hand wash which delayed patient’s admission due to the absence of washing machines.
“The hospital could not boast of an ambulance, including vehicles, to convey consumable”, he declared.
He bemoaned that Sampa as a border town there have been a number of recorded of meningitis, tuberculosis, HIV amongst others without any isolation wards to prevent cross infections.
He continued that with all these problems, government over the years has not in realities injected capital investment to put the hospital in its befitting standard.
Meanwhile, in spite of all these challenges, Dr Taah Amoako was delighted to mention that the hospital under the 2016 regional annual review meeting topped under clinical and they tried to also produce their own basic drugs such as paracetamol, trisilicate, mist magnesium, cough syrup amongst others.

He used the opportunity to advise the people of Sampa and its environs to report early to the hospital when they experience symptoms of meningitis as they drew nearer to the hot weather conditions.
