Suncity Radio has learnt that Revenue Collectors issuing daily tickets (without printed rates) are sanctioned by the Sunyani Municipal Assembly (SMA) for the exercise.
“We are aware of the exercise and it is officially coming from the Assembly,” Mr Francis Ashamata, Chief Revenue Head of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly, told Nana KAS, in an interview on Suncity Radio, Wednesday morning.
He explained that the exercise was genuine and the Revenue Collectors duly certified by the Assembly.
“It‘s part of our commitment to improve revenue collection for the Assembly’s development agenda,” the Chief Revenue Head indicated.
In an answer to the nature of tickets without printed face values, Mr Ashamata confirmed that the tickets and the sellers were not fake, but genuine and stamped by his outfit.
He said the rates which were collected on a daily basis, range from 50p-Ghc 2 depending on the type of business people were engaged in. While Ice water sellers paid 50p daily, Taxis and big trucks are taxed Ghc 1 and Ghc 2 respectively.
Mr Ashamata said though the exercise was progressing steadily, there was still much to be done to achieve set targets, and appealed to all stakeholders to help sustain the exercise and ensure the needed progress and development in the municipality, Brong Ahafo Region and Ghana as a whole.
