Youth Targeted For Cocoa Production In Dormaa

The youth in the Dormaa municipality of the Bono region is targeted to increase cocoa production in the region and the country as a whole.

This was unveiled by the District Cocoa Officer of the Cocoa Health and Extension Division of the COCOBOD in the Dormaa municipal, David Afriyie Gyebi.

According to Mr David Gyebi, 2500 youth in the cocoa industry are engaged in corporate groups and supported with inputs such as insecticides, seedlings amongst others.

He reiterated that COCOBOD has rollout several interventions concerning pruning and artificial pollination exercise which began in 2018 on cocoa farms.

Mr Gyebi disclosed that 561 are employed for the pruning of the Cocoa trees, 702 pollinators also engaged, 1.8 million seedlings to be supplied to cocoa farmers and 710 mass sprayers fungicides whilst,  irrigation exercise on the drawing board for the year.

The municipal CHED officer took advantage of the platform to advice farmers to embrace the pruning of cocoa farms and pollination seriously in order to meet the one million tones target of cocoa production a year.

He said this would improve the lives of farmers and their families, develop the country in its infrastructural agenda and minimize economic expenditure.
