Sunyani-based Afro gospel singer, Nana Kwame Yeboah, otherwise known as Wear Shades has called on his colleagues to believe in themselves.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the News Hunter Magazine, the ‘Tiatia No’ singer stated that, it will take a positive attitude for someone to achieve his/her goals.
He asserted that moving from the region to other parts of the country won’t guarantee an instant success.
“We have so many talents in the Brong Ahafo Region but we do not believe in ourselves. People think everything from here is inferior. Kin Dee is from here, but he is now making it big in Accra. Let support ourselves and have positive attitudes. No matter where you find yourself, you can make it big if God blesses you. I like where I am now and we should all be happy with where we are from,” he said.
“I started selling shades before I opened the boutique. I have an interest in music. I saw music as my talent because I started rapping way back in school at St Anthony in Accra. I remember doing a song with Reggie Zippy at Dansoman in Accra. I put my music career on hold and return back to Sunyani,” Wear Shades opened up about how he began his music career.
He added: “While concentrating on other businesses, I had a strong desire to make music again and Kin Dee recorded my first track for at Odumase. The song was hot but my mother tagged it as ‘senseless song’, and her words discourage from continuing the music. I gathered the courage to re-brand the song…and came out with ‘3renkye’. Since it was a pure gospel song, the boys did not jam with it as expected, so I went back to Kin Dee and we recorded ‘Tiatia No’. The way they welcomed it made me know what they like so I said to myself that I will always give it to them that way. “
Wear Shades admitted that there are many challenges associated with this work, but with determination, success is attainable.
“Now I am doing ‘ghetto gospel’, a song that can be played at the Church, club and anywhere. I followed it up with Hype No, Akwankyere, Danquation and many other songs. There are more works ahead. When you hear broskoto obiaa, then it is Wear Shades,” he revealed.
Wear Shades stressed that he is a role model for himself—and he hopes to be a household name as far as music is concerned in this country.
