Ghanaian Gospel Artist, Bernard Amankwah has said he is not
happy about the decision of Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) to collect
royalties from churches in the country.

The ‘Come to Jesus’ singer says Gospel Musicians receive a
lot of benefits from the churches, hence, he is not in support of such move.
“I am a believer and it is God who gives us the strength and
words to do music. He called us to help plant the church and also propagate his
word through singing.
“We benefit from the churches that we minister…and I am not
in support of GHAMRO’s decision,” he told Abeiku Turkson on TV Africa’s Showbiz
And More program which was monitored by the News Hunter Magazine.
Chairman of GHAMRO, Rex Owusu Marfo popularly known as Rex
Omar disclosed at a workshop organized by his outfit last week on their plans
to collect royalties from churches on the music they use.

“Yes, we are considering that. We are putting in place the
necessary measures to let churches pay royalties because they also use
musicians’ intellectual property,” Rex Omar stated.
