31-year-old Mam Yandey Joof has been remanded by the Madina District Court for the alleged murder of her boyfriend and owner of Kikibees Restaurant and Lounge, Bennette Agyekum Adomah.

Mr. Adomah was allegedly murdered by his hotelier girlfriend Joof in his house.

The court, presided over by Mrs. Susana Nyakotey, has thrown out a plea by the suspect.

According to Inspector Jameson Awumey’s account of events to the court, Joof and the deceased had been in a relationship for the past three years.

Mr. Adomah returned to his East Legon residence from a three-month trip abroad on October 7, 2023, around 6:00 p.m. He then left for the restaurant two hours later and at about half past midnight, went to Joof’s apartment at Ogbojo.

A heated argument ensued between the two about an hour later which awoken the other tenants in the house. The deceased apparently turned hyperactive and began hurling things, saying that he was being chased.

Inspector Awumey reported that Joof called a friend of the deceased to come and assist her but upon arrival, the friend found Mr. Adomah lying in a pool of blood frantically flailing his hands.

The tenants helped to quickly rush him to the DEL Hospital at East Legon but he was pronounced dead shortly on arrival.

The incident was reported to the police and the body was sent to the Police Hospital Mortuary. A cut on the deceased’s left thumb was discovered upon inspection and shards of blood-stained ceramic were also found at the scene.

Police have begun investigations as Joof remains in custody. Her lawyer, Muniru Kassim has told the court that his client is innocent and that will be proven in due time.

The court has adjourned the case to October 27.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kassim said they will request for bail at the High Court.
