People in Tachiman North District have been charged to promote

national unity as Ghana marks its 58th Independence Day Anniversary

Celebration.

The story of our nation, since its proclamation of independence on 6th

March 1957, by our nation's founder, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, is a

story which we continue to recall. On the night of its announcement,

the excitement and happiness we experienced was clear. And as Dr.

Nkrumah uttered those famous words, "At long last the battle is ended,

and thus our beloved country Ghana, is free forever", our fathers and

mothers faced the future with joy and excitement.

Speaking on the occasion of Ghana's 58th Independence Day Anniversary

celebration held on Friday, 6th March, 2015, at the Roman Catholic

School Park in Tuobodom, District Chief Executive of Tachiman North,

Hon. Anthony Kwaku Marnuh said the differences of ethnic groups, races

and religions should not divide us.

"Today is a day to celebrate Ghana, and celebrate ourselves as a

district. Today is a time to feel proud and express love for everyone

and everything that has brought us this far. I Urge families, Churches

and educational institutions to continue to inculcate a sense of

unity, patriotism and nationalism in our children. Destiny brought us

together as one nation. Our ethnic and cultural diversity is a source

of strength not, weakness. We must reject any attempt to sow any

strife and discord among us. Today is also a time to ask ourselves,

"Where dodo we want to go from here? And how do we get there?"

According to him, Ghanaians must strive to build a nation devoid of

our political affiliations and we must be able to put the past behind

us and seek only to pursue an agenda that will help to pull our

resources, human and capital, to build a just, fair and prosperous

society where there is an equitable distribution of our nation's

wealth to the benefit of all our people.

"I wish to take this opportunity to bring to your attention, His

Excellency the President's maximum commitment to ensuring a government

that would develop our country through patriotism and national unity.

The President has always intimated that whatever our differences,

whatever our politics, we must pull together and rise to meet the

challenges of our time. For the long-term survival of our nation, we

must agree and commit ourselves to a multi-partisan process to secure

the future of this country and that there is no need for arguments and

debates over trivial issues to the detriment of the development of the

country."

"The choice of the theme for this year's Independence Anniversary

Celebration, "Achieving Transformation through National Unity" is

therefore very relevant and appropriate. This theme is particularly

important since there is no better opportunity for us to forge a

closer collaboration in our development efforts than national unity."

Hon. Anthony Kwaku Marnuh stated that education has been a trusted and

strategic tool for national development and also raises the

consciousness of the body politic and produces the requisite manpower

for the management of the economy of any nation. Hence two students,

Twumwaa Gloria and Adjei Simon from the district benefited from the

Assemblies award scheme which sponsors them into the Senior High

School level.

Hon. Anthony Kwaku Marnuh announced that, the Tachiman North District

has been selected to benefit from the 50 Community Senior High Schools

Project.

"I am proud to state that construction work has begun at Krobo and the

project is scheduled to be completed by 15th August, 2015. The school

will have three (3) blocks of 4-storeys each to include 24 classrooms

and 8 offices for departmental heads. Others are 4 well equipped

laboratories for Chemistry, Physics and Biology, 2 libraries to seat

150 students at a time, an ICT Laboratory to seat 45 students at a

time and 40 seater internet learning center.

Nana Obeng Ameyaw Barimah, Tuobodom Hene who chaired the occasion said

it worth to celebrate Ghana's 58th Independence and therefore called

on all present at the ceremony to be patriotic and help the

development of the country. "Together we can move forward as a

nation."
