NHM EXCLUSIVE: Brong Ahafo Bids Farewell to Former Ghanaian Footballer “King” George Arthur

On Sunday, the 14th of June this year, the Brong Ahafo region was thrown into a state of grieve after death placed its icy hands on Ghanaian Footballer “King” George Arthur.

George sadly passed away after collapsing at Dreamers Joint, a restaurant in Sunyani whilst playing a draught game with his friends after a church service.

The former Black Stars player died at the age of 47.

Family, friends, soccer fans and the entire football fraternity paid their last respect to “King” George Arthur who was laid to rest on Saturday, 5th September at Fiapre near Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region.

King George Arthur played for BA United before joining Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the 1980’s and he is remembered for scoring a double in a Ghana Premier League match between Kotoko and rivals Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium in 1987.

He also played for Egyptian club side Al Ahly and was a regular member of the Black Stars team in the late 80’s.

“King” George Arthur ventured into football administration after retirement when he became the CEO of his former team, BA United.

The name “King” George Arthur will forever remain in the hearts of the people in Brong Ahafo and all football loving fans–for his immense contribution towards the development of football and grass root soccer in Ghana.

Fare-thee-well, “King” George Arthur.
