The Founder and Executive Director of Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), Raphael Godlove Ahenu, has outlined the main goal for the ‘Resilient City for Adolescents’ project.

After a policy hearing forum in Sunyani, the capital of the Bono Region on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Tyco City Hotel, Mr Ahenu explained what his outfit and partners seek to achieve in an exclusive interview with Newshuntermag.com.

He said the main goal of the project is to empower adolescents to demand for their rights and take an active part in decision-making at the city level.

To achieve this goal, the CEO of GLOMEF stated a chain of activities has been lined up.

Among these activities was the policy hearing which was held last week Thursday.

“With the policy hearing, these adolescents identify issues within their communities then we bring it to the stakeholders forum for discussions and see how best we will be able to address those challenges facing adolescents within their communities,” he elucidated.

Raphael Godlove Ahenu indicated that an adolescent parliament has been established—and these young people have been trained to take leadership roles just like what is done at Ghana’s parliament.

“We have zoned Sunyani into nineteen (19) constituencies, and we have elected MPs within these constituencies. It’s the same as Ghana’s parliament. So they have their speaker, minority and majority leaders. They identify issues at their community level and bring them to parliament for discussion. After the discussion, we then bring it to the stakeholders forum,” the GLOMEF CEO detailed.

He added that the structure is a replica of the political party structure in Ghana.

Mr Godlove Ahenu further stressed the need to have healthy cities for adolescents in the country.

He revealed that the project is being funded by Foundation Botnar—with Ecorys, Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF) and Citizens Watch Ghana as partners. It’s being held across some selected areas in the country.
