The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG), an organization representing private healthcare institutions providing services across Ghana, recently held its Annual General Conference at BACA Hotel in Koforidua.
It was themed “Adopting a Data-Driven Decision-Making Culture as a Tool to Create a Responsive Healthcare System in Ghana.”
In his keynote address, the President of the Association, Dr. Kwame Buabeng-Frimpong, posed the question: “How relevant is data reporting in the private healthcare sector, and what does the sector stand to gain?” This sparked a lively debate among health practitioners and stakeholders, who brainstormed strategies to improve the quality of healthcare delivery.
In addition to the discussions on data, Dr. Buabeng-Frimpong called on the government to address key concerns, particularly urging the Ghana Revenue Authority to reconsider the heavy taxes imposed on small private health facilities to support their growth.
Citing statistical evidence, he highlighted that private health facilities have been performing better than those under the Christian Health Association in recent years. He encouraged the government to increase its support for PHFAoG’s development.
He also emphasized the need for private health facilities to employ qualified staff and adopt data-driven decision-making practices to further boost the sector’s efficiency.
In conclusion, Dr. Buabeng-Frimpong reiterated the association’s commitment to leading healthcare services in Ghana and driving its agenda beyond external aid.
The conference also saw the participation of several key figures, including representatives from the NHIA, EPA, and HeFRA, who addressed various related issues.
The president expressed his gratitude to stakeholders, executives, and members of the association for their support, as well as dignitaries such as the Omanhene of New Juaben, the Presidential Advisor on Health, the NHIA CEO, the Regional Commander of the Eastern Corridor, the Regional Director of Health, the HeFRA boss, and Cassona, the lead sponsor of the program.
