Dr. Kwaku Asiedu Nketiah Jnr., Vice Chairman of the NDC’s National Youth Working Committee and a farmer himself, has called on cocoa farmers across Ghana to vote massively for the NDC and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to end what he described as years of hardship under the Akufo-Addo administration.
Speaking during a community engagement with first-time voters in Yaw Wusukrom, Dormaa West District, Bono Region, Dr. Asiedu Nketiah accused the current government of failing cocoa farmers by cancelling the free fertilizer programme initiated by the previous NDC administration. He also criticized the government for offering a cocoa producer price he termed “a total rip-off,” noting that farmers in neighboring Togo and Côte d’Ivoire receive better prices because their governments prioritize their welfare.
“This administration has impoverished farmers through neglect and broken promises. Under Akufo-Addo and Bawumia, even fertilizers meant to be free are being sold to you, and the new cocoa price increment is yet another attempt to cheat farmers,” he asserted.
Dr. Asiedu Nketiah Jnr. urged voters to reject Vice President Bawumia, describing him as complicit in the administration’s policies that have disadvantaged farmers. He encouraged the community to resist vote-buying tactics allegedly being employed by the NPP, advising them to “take the money—it’s your own—but vote against them.”
During his visit, he highlighted projects initiated by the NDC since the constituency’s establishment in 2012, including roads, healthcare facilities, and potable water systems. He lamented the current state of neglect in the area, which, despite being a hub for cocoa, cashew, and timber production, remains underdeveloped.
Dr. Asiedu Nketiah Jnr. assured farmers that an NDC government under John Mahama would restore policies that directly benefit farmers, improve rural infrastructure, and uplift living standards.
Accompanying him on the tour were former Berekum MCE Hon. Lord Opoku Stephen, MP for Dormaa West Vincent Oppong Asamoah, Bono Regional NDC Communication Officer Charles Akowuah, and Bono NDC Youth Organizer Kwaku Rooney.
