“Tweeaaa” DCE dismissed
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano
South in the Ashanti Region, Gabriel Barima
who recently made the word "twea" popular
has been dismissed with immediate effect.
A statement signed the Executive Secretary to
the President; Dr. Raymond Atuguba said "the
president exercising the powers conferred on
him by the Local Government Act section 204,
has dismissed the DCE for Ahafo Ano South,
Gabriel Barima with immediate effect."
The statement also said the Ashanti Regional
Minister has been directed to act until a
substantive DCE is appointed.
Gabriel Barima was recently caught on film
throwing tantrums and storming out of a
durbar because a member of the audience
reportedly said "twea" during his speech.
There were calls for his dismissal but Mr.
Barima was reprimanded Local Government and
Rural Development and allowed to stay on as
DCE.
However he is reportedly asked for royalties for
the popularising "tweaa" in another interview
this week and that seemed to earned wrath of
the Minister of Local Government who issued a
statement to express his disgust.
The statement issued earlier on Wednesday said
"In view of this development, the Ministry is
reviewing its earlier decision to ensure that
Hon. Barima is appropriately sanctioned
according to the high standards of public
office."
