CHIEFS OF YAWHIMA HOLDS MCE OF SUNYANI PRIME SUSPECT OF AIDING PLANS TO COMMENCE ILLEGAL MINING
Three chiefs of the YawhIma township in the sunyani municipality at
the Brong Ahafo Region has pointed out the Municipal Chief Executive
(MCE) and some others as prime suspects aiding and abetting plans for
the commencement of illegal mining popularly known as "galamsey" in
the area.
The circle of chiefs comprised Nana Ansu Ababio, the paramount chief,
Nana Akwasi Amoh, Dwanetoahene and Nana Ansu Gyeaboo, the krontihene
,all of YawhIma township.
In an interview with the host, Nana Kwame Nkwantabisa, sobriquet Nana
K of Jlife FM's morning show coffee shop, Nana Ansu Ababio, the
paramount chief said, he was in his residence when the assemblyman of
the area, stalls by his house showing him (the chief) a letter to be
submitted to the chief of Mensakrom, also a subset of YawhIma, from
the MCE. Nevertheless he didn't divulge the content of the letter;
however he did affirm the letter holds an appended signature of the
MCE, apparently indicating his involvement in the illegal act.
Following a story featuring an imminent illegal mining along the Tano
River by Jlife's news reporter Kofi Oppong Kyekyeku (KOK), the allied
chiefs said, they heard rumors that an NGO (no name) wants to help the
community. They sent a delegation to find out since the "so – called",
NGO has refused to introduce themselves formally to the chiefs. The
delegation came reporting that, there was no NGO but instead
encountered an individual who claimed wanting to build a dam for the
community to help decrease the water crises of the area.
Nana K, the host of the program, asked exactly what the man (whose
name is yet to be identified), was going to do in the area.
"Rumors had it that he wanted to operate 'galamsey' but the delegation
sent, said the man claimed wanting to construct a dam", responded the
Dwanetoahene. He furthered that, there's already a dam in the area
serving the community so "we don't need a dam".
"We are not against mining in itself but we are against illegal
mining", asserted the Krontihene, furthering that, what hinders them
from coming to the chiefs to make things official?
Nana Ansu Ababio, the paramount chief said, the miscreant and some
Chinese have surveyed the land for about six years now and do not
understand why he(the chief), the custodian of the land has not been
officially informed.
"I know that there's something fishy going on and I suspect the MCE
and some dignitaries' involvement", he added.
