Dada Thick Calls For Unity Among Musicians In Brong Ahafo

Dada Thick

Akwasi Amankwaa Apam, an up and coming high life artist based in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana gave an exclusive interview to the News Hunter Magazine. Below is the excerpts of the interview conducted by Kofi Oppong Kyekyeku.

Akwasi Amankwaa is better known by his stage name, Dada Thick. As a youth, Dada Thick was largely influenced by a distinctive form of highlife music created by George darko, Lee Doduo, Rex Gyamfi and Charles Amoah who are the pioneers of “Burger-Highlife” in the country. So he decided to pick that path as a career himself. After years of homing his skill at home, Dada Thick decided to take it a step further by joining a group which was led by the good-old Nana Fosu.

HOW DO YOU SEE THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IN BRONG AHAFO?

Infact it’s very sad as well as the music industry in Brong Ahafo is concerned, because it seems the people of B.A do not understand the concept of music and even the music industry as a whole. Things are not easy in doing music in Brong Ahafo because we do not receive assistance from our fans and stakeholders. They need to push us! This is our region, we don’t have anywhere to go so push us and we can make it.

YEARS IN THE INDUSTRY

I’ve been in the industry for twenty (20) years now.

WHICH MUSICIAN IS SELLING B.A?

Some artistes like Rex Gyamfi and CST Amankwaah who hails from this region has done their part, they did well to sell the name of Brong Ahafo region. But their era was different from what we are experiencing now. Yet, people like “Area Boy” of the Abenaa fam, Guru, Grace Ashy and a host of others are also selling the name of the region. Again, we need the pushing so that we can build a concrete music in the Brong Ahafo region.

SHORT-COMINGS/CHANGES

“Together we stand” we can make changes if only we come together and work as a team, no matter the kind of genre that you are doing.

ON HIS LATEST PROJECT

“I’m coming out with a new single titled Ante Yaa Ba” meaning the son of Ante Yaa. I am releasing this single to show gratitude and honor to her mother who has done a lot for him. He advised against Ghanaians honoring /worshiping the dead. We should praise/honor them whiles they are alive and not after their death.

He said Amakye Dede is his role model. On the question of weather he is single or engage; he said, he is single and will not go into details because “even the bible tell us to keep secret” and not all things are for public consumption.
