Producer of Pink FM’s entertainment show, 2 Degrees, Manuel King, has
warned that the future of the Ghana movie industry is bleak.
“I don’t hate any producer or production house, but when it comes to
the reality; our movie industry has no good future; unless proper
structures and screening measures are put in place.
There are lots of good producers who have contributed to good movies,
but Kumawood has dominated the scene with the release of movies almost
every week. What hurts most is the entire package; poor production from
head to toe,” he stated.
According to him, Ghana’s movie industry has become an avenue for
testing the waters where people, with no or little knowledge in
filmmaking, emanate from nowhere, purposely to join the race and make
money.
He explained that people with experience ought to be consulted for coaching or advice before shooting movies.
That, he stressed, will help scriptwriters, directors and producers of movies which are novice in the industry.
Mr. King also criticized the editing of movies and the time-period within which movies are released.
In response to Ghanaian actors and actresses obtaining awards, he said: “it is an undisputable fact that some will win awards.”
He was however quick to add that the number of award-winning artistes will be few.
“In United Kingdom and USA and some of the African countries, things
are well structured with proper measures and it is no surprise that
their movie industry is growing,” he said.
