Accra-based radio station, Oman FM has pulled out of this year’s Radio
and Television Personality (RTP) awards scheduled to take place soon.
“The Globa RTP Awards is aimed at recognizing and rewarding seasoned
Radio and TV personalities who have, over the years, contributed
immensely towards the development of the industry in Ghana, and have
also endeared themselves to listeners and viewers,” organizers of the
award posted on their website as the aim of the event.
And since its institution, known Ghanaian Television and Radio
personalities have been awarded some claiming the award is the best
instituted to reward the hard work of journalists in the country.
Members of the public are given the opportunity to vote for their
favourite nominee with a panel of judges determining who has the highest
number of votes and qualifies for the award.
Health campaigner, Oheneba Ntim Barima warned listeners of the station
during the late afternoon show of Thursday, 18thSeptember, 2014 not to
continue voting for any personality from the station selected for the
award since the management of Kencity Media Limited, operators of the
station has decided to opt out of the awards.
He apologized to listeners for the announcement indicating the decision
was arrived at by management in the interest of the station and their
listeners.
A deep throat source at the station told Adomonline.com that the lack
of fairness in the process is the reason for the decision.
“It’s not a fair process…they already have their favorites and have
decided the ones they want to win the awards…They only want to make
money out of innocent voters,” the source said.
Various radio and TV personalities have already started campaigning for
their listeners and viewers to text to assigned text codes to vote for
them.
