The death toll in a fatal accident at Sofoline, a suburb of Kumasi,
Ashanti regional capital has risen to eight after five more died in
the hospital, the Police have confirmed.
Three died on the spot while another five are currently in critical
condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Only one woman has
been identified among the 8 dead.
The accident happened at 10pm Wednesday night. It occurred after a DAF
Container vehicle travelling from Abuakwa to Sunyani ran into a train
of vechicles.
The worst affected vechicle was a Nissan Urvan mini bus loaded with
passengers, Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor told myjoyonline The
vehicle's menacing weight mangled the Urvan bus full of men and women
– letting off screams for help, of horror and of certain death.
The Sofoline police managed to pull out some casualties who have been
rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital in a city full of
darkness as a result of a black-out.
It was a scene of horror and shock with very disturbing images
circulating on social media.
The driver has claimed that a brake failure in his DAF Container
vehicle with registration number GR 7413-12 caused the fatal accident.
He has been arrested. Erastus reports that the police are considering
a case of drunk driving.
