Ghana: GPRTU to stop passengers from littering

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union has directed all members

operating under its banner to ban passengers from littering during

journeys.

The directive issued by the National Chairman of the union, Alhaji Yaw

Manu is to improve environmental sanitation in the country in line

with the National Sanitation Day.

Minister of Local Government, Julius Debrah gave the directive when he

called on National executives of the union as part of efforts by the

ministry to get all stakeholders on board the sanitation campaign.

The minister announced the creation of a Small and Medium Enterprise

(SME) package under a sanitation module to provide toilet facilities

through a loan scheme.

Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Edward Effah, expressed the banks

readiness to support the scheme.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed during

the next sanitation day.

Mr Debrah also called on management of Latex Foam to solicit support

for the campaign.
