The National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) has raised concerns

about the pressure posed by private developers on the Kotoka

International Airport (KIA) land close to the Airport installation.

According a statement issued by the NSCS and signed by Col Ewk Nibo

(rtd), the trend had so far caused massive encroachment on the airport

environment posing a grave threat to flight operations.

The situation had resulted in serious hazards in the airport

operations, the statement said.

It stated that the notice of the Land Commission in 1998 which aimed

at halting all further developments on the KIA acquisition in order to

promote the airport's land use objectives had been disregarded by

private developers resulting in serious hazards in airport operations.

The statement said to prevent further encroachment, the boundaries of

KIA had been redefined so that non-conforming development and other

unauthorised activities have curtailed.

The NSCS, therefore, announced to the general public that the Kotoka

International Airport land area has been declared a security zone.

"Any interested party who is in doubt as to whether his/ her

development falls within the area may call at the Lands Commission for

clarification before any new further development is undertaken," it

said.
