Ghana News –A 24-year-old pregnant woman and her two-year-old son
have drowned in the Nyamkaman river at Enchi in the Western region.
The pair, Elizabeth Mantey and Cosmos Ackah were returning from the
farm when the unfortunate incident occurred last Wednesday.
According to Tricky FM’s Kwabena Buju, the eight months old pregnant
woman dared to cross the river after her husband had asked her to wait
while he went over the other side to fetch firewood to prepare supper.
“Her husband, Stephen Ackah told his wife to wait for him in their
cocoa farm but she decided to follow up when her husband took forever
to come” Kwabena Buju added.
With the baby strapped behind her back, the deceased with a hefty
pregnancy waded into the river and was soon heard letting out a
desperate cry for help.
An alarmed Cosmos Ackah rushed back to the river bank in an attempt to
rescue his horrified and hefty wife. Unable to do so, he sped to the
town to call for help.
Rescuers came late. The lifeless bodies of Elizabeth and Cosmos has
been retrieved and deposited at the Enchi Government Hospital for
autopsy.
The Enchi District Police Command, ASP Anim Ofori confirmed the sad
news to Adom FM.
