The 19-year-old girl who accused media icon, Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD)
of rape has withdrawn the charges, sources at the Greater Accra Police
Command have told citifmonline.com.
It is unclear whether the prosecutor will subsequently drop all
charges against KKD who has been in police custody since December 28,
2014 for allegedly raping Ewurefe Orleans Thompson.
The Attorney General (AG) may consider the request of the lady but
that decision will be influenced by the evidence the AG or the Police
have.
However if the two institutions have enough evidence, they can still
go ahead and prosecute the case.
The victim alleged that she was raped during a fashion show at the
African Regent Hotel.
KKD denied raping her but admitted having consensual sex with her.
On Tuesday morning, the bail application hearing of KKD was adjourned
to Thursday January 15, 2015.
At the request of KKD’s counsel, Tony Folson, the case was heard in
camera but it is unclear why that request was made.
In his lawyer’s bail application, he argued that the facts do not show
“there was any physical or verbal threat of harm or physical restraint
used to compel the victim to have sex with the accused, yet, the
prosecution contends the use of force.”
He further argued among others that, even though there were two other
persons in the room during the alleged rape incident, the facts of the
prosecutor do not state that “any one of them heard noise from the
so-called victim.”
