Kelly Osbourne will get the same surgery as Jolie

Angelina Jolie is not alone: Kelly Osbourne says she faces a similar cancer threat and eventually she’ll have to get the same surgery.

Osbourne spoke about her medical situation on The Talk on Tuesday, hours after Jolie’s essay in the New York Times explained how she chose preventative surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes to reduce her risk of developing killer cancers.

“I agree with this 100%,” Osbourne said on the show where her mother, Sharon Osbourne, is a co-host. “I know that one day I will eventually have to do it, too.”

Kelly, 30, said she, too, has the cancer gene mutation that Jolie has, which elevates the risk of developing some cancers.

She knows this because of her mother’s experience, surviving colon cancer more than 10 years ago, she said. (Her mother was off on Tuesday.)

“I’m so lucky to have the mother I have, the brave mother I have that has taught me so much,” Kelly said.
“I actually do have the cancer gene. My mom made all of us (including her brother and sister) get tested after she found out that she had it and got her double mastectomy.”

Jolie’s essay on Tuesday followed by two years a similar essay in the New York Times in which she described why she had chosen a double mastectomy to reduce her risk of developing breast cancer, which has already killed three of her close female relatives.

Jolie’s sharing of her experiences has been widely praised by cancer experts for directing a spotlight on
cancer risks in general and the value of genetic testing for some women in particular.

Kelly Osbourne, who just quit as a co-host of Fashion Police, didn’t say when she would undergo surgery, but suggested she might want children.

“If I have children, I want to be there to bring them up,” she said.

Kelly Osbourne has left the ‘Fashion Police.’ Her exit comes just days after criticizing co-host Giuliana Rancic’s comments on actress-singer Zendaya’s dreadlocks at the Oscars.
