Since the institution of the most recognized award event
“Ghana Music Awards” organized by event power house Charter House
came into existence to honor and award hard-working musicians and all stake
holders in the music industry, each year receives massive criticisms and
bashing from the general public and entertainment pundits.

The yet to be held 17th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is no exception, as pundits
raw on the event house on the credibility of the event and its award scheme.

George Quaye , Public Relations Officer of Charterhouse Productions Limited, and the host of ‘The Pundits’ on
GhOne  speaking in an interview with Ike Frimpong on Sky Fm’s Loud In Gh
last Saturday outlined the process to which a song is granted a nomination to
be awarded.

He disclosed that; “entries are opened to allow musicians submit they are
songs for nominations. After which a board, made up of experienced music
industry players seats to access and categories submitted songs by artists or
musicians.

“An artist can have his or her song gain nominations only if its content of
lyrics doesn’t promote violence, as a copy right ownership, passes a popularity
test and  the song in question was realized a year before the event,” he
added.

Mr. Quaye, further explained that the unsung category designed by Charter House
to enable young talented musicians gain the platform to perform at the Vodafone
Ghana Music Awards event.

“we came up with such initiative to enhance young
talents and that people will always have issues with the dresses people wear to
the event, what they say, who as being nominated, who deserve what and who
doesn’t deserve an award and on everything concerning the VGMA’S.”

The 17th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA’S) is slated for 7th May, 2016 and
the nominations of songs into the various categories are expected to be done
and out by the 1st (first) week on March 2016.
