Brong Ahafo Receives 10,000 Waste Bins Ahead Of The National Sanitation Day Exercise

The Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council will be hosting the 10th edition of the National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercise, which would hap on Saturday September 5, 2015.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda in a media briefing appealed to all media practitioners in the region to sensitize the general public to incorporate the campaign.

He denoted that about 10,000 waste bins, 200 long brooms,150 wheel barrows, 200 rakes, 200 wellington boots, 50 cutlasses, 100 shovels and 1,000 gloves would be distributed to the districts in the region for the exercise and also any sanitation activities.

The Minister apprised Municipal/District Chief Executives who will be taking delivery of the waste bins to label them against theft; and also perforate it to prevent people from using the bins to store water
at their homes.

He also appealed to Organized Groups and Civil Society Organizations who have sanitation tools/logistics to deploy them to support the exercise.

Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Eric Opoku assured the Ministry of  Local Government and Rural Development that the region will make good use of the items in the fight against insanitary conditions.

“I wish to register our unqualified appreciation to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for this gesture shown to us, the region is ever prepared and I wish to assure you that come 5th September, that day is going to be a memorable, very historic day in the history of the entire exercise in our nation. The people of our region are really determined to come out in their numbers to support this course and at the end, the impact will be very significant,” Hon. Eric Opoku posited.

The National Sanitation Day exercise takes place on the first Saturday of every month under the auspices of the Local Government Ministry to rid the country off filth and unsanitary conditions.
