Ghana’s Most Beautiful Runner Up to Contest NDC Parliamentary Seat | Is It So Cheap to Venture into Politics in Ghana?

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
Politics has become a popular mantra in Ghana because it
seems to be one of the avenues to get rich quick if only you are recognized by
a political party—and you are lucky to be handed a leadership position, Yes, a
leadership position I said.

Mere party communicator or what they term as Serial Callers are being
paid; and most of them takes home monthly salaries which are far more higher than
what a hardworking Ghanaian employee earns at the end of the month.

It appears doing politics in Ghana has become so cheap that everybody works
up to venture into it. And of course you don’t need any certificate to join.

Is doing politics the only way to help one’s community?

A host of Ghanaian media personalities/entertainers have declared their
intentions to venture into politics; in the name of helping their communities.

The latest to join the list is Jacqueline Akweley, the Second Runner Up in the
2011 edition of Ghana Most Beautiful, a Beauty Pageant show being aired on TV3.

According to Kasapafmonline;

“The 2nd Runner Up in the 2011 edition of TV3’s Ghana Most Beautiful
pageant Jacqueline Akweley, is contesting the Ablekuma West Constituency
seat of the ruling National Democratic Congress.

Akweley has made her intentions known, and has put in place the
necessary behind-the-scene works..

Constituency executives have told Kasapafmonline.com  her
decision hasn’t come as a surprise to them.

“She’s been actively involved in the politics here,” a source said.

An ambition nursed over some years, she faces opposition from the
incumbent Member of Parliament, Ursula Owusu, of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).”
