Ghanaian gospel musician and song writer Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong has
revealed that he has always learnt to sing songs from the veteran
hip-life musician Daddy Lumba and there is none of his songs he can’t
sing.
Speaking to flexgh.com, the ‘Maranatha’ hit singer Great Ampong, said
he has loved Lumba from childhood and he counted it a great joy when the
hip-life musician called on him to work together as a group.
“Daddy Lumba is one musician I have loved and admired from my
childhood. He is someone I wanted to meet even just for a day. Even in
school, we formed a group called Nana Acheampong and Lumba and I was the
leader of the Lumba group,” he recounted.
“I made sure I learnt all his songs, and there is none of his songs I
can’t sing. I have waited patiently to meet him in person so when I had
the call from him, I was so excited and the day I met him was an honor
for me. He told me God has placed something on his heart so he would get
back to me at the right time, these were his words and we lost contact
for two years and when he got back we started working on these gospel
tunes,” he added.
Great Ampong also hinted that, he has successfully formed a group
called ‘Kwadwo Kwadwo’ with Daddy Lumba and that they have worked
together to produce four solid gospel albums already which was produced
by sound engineer ‘RORO.’ Their first album ‘Hosanna’will be released on
Friday 4th September, 2015.
This doesn’t mean that Daddy Lumba will no longer be doing his usual
high life. Both of them will keep on doing their individual music as
well.
“I don’t have intentions of also going to do high life. People know me
for doing gospel and I will continue doing gospel,” he said.
