Galaxy Uncovers The Intentions Behind Controversial “VGMA CHOICES” Song And Relationship With Stonebwoy

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
Dynamic Ghanaian Highlife and Afrobeat music duo Gallaxy has
revealed the main idea behind their controversial “VGMA Choices”
tune. The song which was released by the group and performed by one half of the
group, Bra Chiky, was to talk about about the up and downs of Event which
ultimately crowned Hiplife – Hip-hop Artist El as Artist of the year.

Speaking in an interview with Sky  FM’s Ike Frimpong in sunyani, Kwasi Dave, one
half of the duo explained that the song was released  to address issues the people were already
talking about “Everybody knew the issue we touched on in the song are
actually issues that people were talking about, which was the VGMAs. We were in
the Auditorium that night and could hear the response from the crowd when our
name popped in the categories we were nominated for, so people felt some of the
awards went to the wrong recipients, because they felt other people deserved it
better .So what we said in the song were not what we had in mind but rather the
things people were touching on, as creative people, we take lots of inspiration
from our environment and what people say so everything we said in the song is
what people were saying”

The song by Galaxy also had lyrics that were been directed to
other artists in the industry and sparked a lot of commentary on social media,
but Kwasi used the platform to render apologies to any artist who felt offended
by the lyrics of the song, he said “We didn’t mean to disrespect all those
we mentioned in the song, it was just us being creative but after the song,
some of them didn’t take it well, they felt we were disrespecting them so
whatever platform we get, we try to explain to them that it was nothing but
creativity and apologize, it was just a gimmick side of music. Everyone has a
particular reason for Listening to music, some people listen because of the
beat, others listen because of the lyrics, other also listen to song lyrics to
gain excitement, others on the other hand listen and laugh, there even people
who listen just to cry, we created this to excite our fans so it was just a
comic side of our creativity”
The ‘Papa Bi’ hit makers were nominated for the 2016 Vodafone
Ghana Music Awards in the category of ‘Best Group of the year’ which was won by
VVIP.
Their newest song with BET Award winning artist song is
garnering a lot of attention since its release. Sharing the experience and
stress the group encountered in working with the Dancehall sensation, Kwesi
Dave Recounted the struggle they had to face before getting stonebwoy to record
his verse on the song even though they were all residents of Ashaiman. “We
are from the same neighborhood but it wasn’t that easy, music is business so
you deal with it that way. He is our good friend though but it was never
easy, the song was recorded during the same time he was undergoing a knee
surgery in Germany, so he was very hot, traveling up and down. We chased him
for a very long time before we had the chance to work with him. It was never
easy working with Stonebwoy, as you all know he’s on the rise so it makes him
very busy” he revealed
As per him, the term “Gborgborvor” in their song isn’t
particularly in line with the original meaning as it could stand for anything
depending on its usage ” Gborgborvor in this song doesn’t literally mean
what people know, it’s just a metaphor which can represent a whole lot of
things like hard work, Boldness and any other context you want to use it. For
instance, you can say your show is “Gborgborvor” because it’s number
one in the Brong Ahafo region.” Kwasi stated.
The Duo recently returned from the Volta region where according
to Kwasi Dave was part of efforts to promote their latest single. “As I speak,
we just returned from the Volta region to promote our song, and also interact
with the fans who’s been supporting and listen to our music. No matter how good
your song is, you need promotion” He said.
Most Ghanaian musicians over the years have been crying out that
music does not pay but looking at the amount they charge per show, it’s hard to
accept that fact. Prices vary from brand to brand and even from stage to stage,
but Kwasi Dave stated clearly that Galaxy will forever remain Galaxy and might
even consider doing some free shows.” If an artist gets nominated, it
clearly shows that your hard work has been recognized, I don’t think it should
affect your charges for a show. We love our fans so much that we make ourselves
available to anyone who wants us for a show, depending on what package you have
for us we can work with you; we can even do some shows for free. We are still
the same Galaxy.” He emphasized.
Kwasi was however tight lipped about their upcoming
collaborations but urged Listeners and fans to expect lots of huge surprises
from the group, he said “We are working more on making the brand Galaxy a
household name, thanks to all the fans across the nation and particularly to
Sky FM for the Amazing support. You guys have been supporting us from day one,
even coming to us to request for an interview, we really appreciate the
love”
Gborgborvor dropped two weeks ago and the duo are currently
working on the visuals to the awesome collaboration.
