Amidst 13 presidential hopefuls being disqualified from the 2016 electoral race, Private Legal Practitioner, Lawyer Paul Kumi has enounce that the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Madam Charlotte Osei wants to sanitize the electoral system of the country.
He indicated that it is time for the laws of the land to be enforced without fear or favor.
Mr. Paul Kumi further stated that the Presidential seat is an esteem position so it is in order for people who cannot follow simple procedures to be ousted.
“Charlotte Osei wants to sanitize our electoral system and the presidency. Forget about the big names…what do you mean by the people of class? What you do shows who you are. It is time for us to make our laws work effectively,” he told Kwabena Obeng Akrofi on Ark in the morning.
He bemoaned on how the ‘journey to presidency’ is being put into disrepute.
“It is sad for Hassan Ayariga to use unsavory words on Charlotte Osei after his disqualification. We are making the presidency look as a huge joke in Ghana.”
At least 13 of the Presidential hopefuls in the 2016 elections were on Monday disqualified after the commission okayed just four fit to contest the race.
The Chair of the EC, Mrs Charlotte Osei cited filing anomalies including fraudulent signatures, absence of required number of signatures, improper filling of nomination forms, among others as the reasons for their disqualification.
Mrs. Osei said some of the fraudulent information provided by the nominees, the EC will pursue criminal prosecution against them.
