The Brong Ahafo regional command of the Ghana National Fire Service has refuted claims that personnel of the service were unable to extinguish in time a patrol fuel tanker that was caught up with fire at Techiman on November 13, 2018, which went viral on social media.

The regional commander of the Brong Ahafo Fire Service, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, James Owusu-Adjei in an exclusive interview with this reporter revealed that the Techiman fire tender had an *accident* five days prior to the fire outbreak and that the tenders at Nkoranza and Wenchi were therefore relied on to quench the fire of the fuel tanker in flames.

ACFO James Owusu recalled that the fuel tanker was in flames at 4:11 pm while, the Nkoranza fire tender arrived at the Excel filling station where the incident happened at 4: 39 pm followed by that of the Wenchi also at 4: 49 pm.

According to him, with the response from the fire service, the personnel brought the fire under control at 5: 40 pm and finally extinguished the fire 6:10 pm adding that GNFS was able to salvage about half of the fuel content and to him, they have done a good job.

The GNFS regional commander bemoaned the situation went on viral in social media that the fuel tanker was on fire for two hours and was totally burnt which he said was untrue.

He further stated that investigations are still on but it was presumed that there might be a leakage of the fuel tanker saying that the tanker driver was passing from Accra and decided to have a rest and check something he suspected of a fault.

The driver, Daniel Taye then asked his mate called Samuel Doku to get down from the vehicle with registration number GN 5392-11 and see to that when the unfortunate thing happened.

The mate Samuel Doku who received burns was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital where he was being treated as he was the only victim at the scene.
